According to the home supplies company Home Depot, during the holiday season, as the gift exchange and online gift volume continued to rise, 25% of the waste was discarded. Much of the trash contains expanded polystyrene foam packaging.
The team at Home Depot has found a way to replace EPS foam in its private-label holiday product assortment with recyclable material, including structural corrugated, molded pulp, and polyethylene.
Through this step distance EPS foam, Home Depot has been able to eliminate 341,000 cubic feet of EPS packaging. Home Depot says it is 355 lion buses that cannot be recycled from the landfill and waterways.
