Sydney’s first metro train has arrived and is getting ready to hit the tracks and revolutionise public transport in Australia.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today (26 September 2017) marked the milestone of the train’s arrival and the first tracks being laid on the iconic skytrain.
The six carriages of the first metro train have arrived at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill and will be prepared for testing over the coming months.
Ms Berejiklian said: “This is huge – our first metro train is here and undergoing final fitout”
“This 21st century train will revolutionise how we get around Sydney, with a capacity to move more than 40,000 people an hour on the new Sydney Metro system.”
Mr Constance said: “In two years, people living in the North West will get a train every four minutes in the peak in each direction, a level of service never before see in Australia”
“After that, services will extend into the CBD by 2024 – which will have an ultimate capacity of a metro train every two minutes in each direction under the city.”
