First new Sagami Railway EMU delivered

The Sagami Railway in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, has delivered its first 10-car 20000 EMU from Hitachi.

The 1.5kV EMUs feature aluminium alloy bodyshells and are fitted with variable-voltage variable-frequency (VVVF) inverters.

Interior features will include LED lighting, multi-purpose areas for pushchairs and wheelchairs, passenger Wi-Fi, Panasonic NanoE air filtration, and 21.5-inch passenger information screens.

The first train is due to enter service in December and in the longer-term the EMUs will be used on the Sotetsu - Toyku direct line, which is due to open in the second half of 2022.

The 20000 series is based on the Hitachi A-Train platform and is manufactured at Kasado, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
