Nepal to improve distribution network with six new substations

The Nepalese Electricity Authority (NEA) will build six new substations at different locations in the Kathmandu Valley to improve distribution.

Contracts have been awarded for building three 132 kV substations at Mulpani, Phutung and Chapagaon, and two 220 kV substations, at Lapsiphedi and Changu Narayan.

The NEA plans to start construction of the five stations by the end of February 2018. The contractors will be given 30 months to complete the projects.

The NEA is also evaluating proposals to select a contractor for the construction of a 220 kV substation at Barhabise.

As part of the transmission and distribution efficiency enhancement project (PTDEEP) implemented by the Nepali government in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), these six substations are under construction.
