High-tech substation goes online in Belarus

Belarus, Postavy District –One of the largest substations in Belarus was carried out on July 31 in the Vibbs area post office in Vitebsk. Belarusian Minister of Energy Belarus State Power Company Director Belgoo Yevgeny Voronov and Belarus North China Electric Power Company (NCPE) representatives attended the inauguration.

The Postavy substation site lies on the border between Braslav District and Postavy District. This is one of the key facilities of the project to connect the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the national power grid.

The high-technology 330kV substation is expected to enable interstate power transmission between Belarus and Lithuania via 330kV overhead power lines. The construction began in 2015. The substation now features cutting-edge equipment, too. The facility is estimated to cost $40.7 million.

The 330kV electrical substation Postavy was built as part of the project to deliver electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the rest of the national power grid. It is but one of the 23 startup facilities. Some of them have been commissioned already.

All the work will be done in 2018. This work is being done in Vitebsk, Minsk and Grodno. Grodno Oblast Electric Company Grodnoenergo is a customer, while NCPE is a general contractor. Belarus subcontractors are heavily involved.
