The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGC), the power operator has provided Cebeco II (Cebeco II) with a new 20 MVA (MVA) transformer unit to maintain the power quality of the northern Cebu power consumers.
The grid operator quickly responded to an emergency request from Cebeco II, following the sudden breakdown of a 10-MVA transformer in the local utility's Cogon Substation in Compostela, Cebu last September 17. Since the procurement a new transformer typically takes six to eight months, NGCP promptly granted Cebeco II's request to loan a back-up transformer stored at its Cebu Substation. Apart from assisting in transporting the equipment to Compostela, NGCP also extended its support by conducting a technical evaluation and commissioning of the transformer, which successfully energized the equipment on the afternoon of September 26.
"The reliable and efficient delivery of electricity from the generators to the end-consumer depends both on the grid operator and the distribution utilities. We are always ready to support them to ensure that everyone gets the power needed to run industries and commercial establishments, and meet household needs," NGCP stressed.
NGCP's assistance will allow the power in the Northern Cebu franchise area of Cebeco II to normalize. About 12,000 residential, industrial, and commercial power consumers in the area will benefit from this arrangement.
"By giving assistance to Cebeco II, we further contribute to a stronger power industry, to the benefit of end-consumers. The power industry, though composed of various stakeholders, is a single entity, and the support we give to our partners will ultimately benefit the entire country," NGCP added.
NGCP is a private company responsible for the operation, maintenance and development of national power grids. High-voltage power is transmitted through "highways" including interconnection systems for transmission lines, towers, substations and associated assets. The alliance has a 25-year franchise contract to run the country's transmission network, led by Robert Coyiuto (Robert Coyiuto) led by Robert Coyiuto (Robert Coyiuto) led by Robert Coyiuto (Robert Coyiuto) led by Robert Coyiuto (Robert Coyiuto) Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp.
